Me: Your name is BRICE, sweetie.
Brice: Mom, did you know that wayyyyyy back, along time ago, black people had to sit on the back of the bus and white people sit at the front of the bus?
Me: Yes, I did know that Brice.
Brice: And that's no fair!
Me: You are right Brice. That was no fair. But its not like that now. I'm glad.
Brice: Does that mean you and Daddy would sit in different seats?
Me: We don't really need to worry about that now, Brice.
Brice: Marfin Lufin King made things fair.
Me: Yes, he tried very hard to make things fair.
Brice: I'm sad that it's no fair and we can't sit together on the bus.
Me: No, Brice, we can sit together now.
Me: (mumbling under my breath as just a small mini rant..and a very personal one) This is why I hate it when the school does the whole Martin Luther King day thing with small kids....
Brice (Very LOUDLY) Oh! What mom? You hate Marfin Lufin King!!!! That's BAD mom! Daddy, did you hear Mommy hates Marfin Lufin King???
Albert: I heard Brice. (Thanks, Albert)
Brice (now racing about the aisle) You hate Marfin Lufin King! You are very bad, Mom. You aren't fair!
Me: No, no, Brice. I love Martin Luther King. I just get upset when you are upset because...
Brice: No! You aren't fair!
Me (getting very flustered and secretly wanting to crawl under the register and hide): Okay, I'm going to go to the van now. You can finish shopping with Daddy and I'll see you in a few minutes.
Brice: Yeah, and you get to sit in the front of the van because you are white and I have to sit in the back. NO FAIR!
Me (getting even more flustered as this is quite a loud conversation): No, I sit in the front because I am your mom. You sit in the back cause you are my kid.
Albert: smiling and snickering.
On the way home, Brice is still hot about the situation and bursts forth with the following.
Brice: Mom, you hate Marfin Lufin King, Jesus and even Santa Claus.
Albert almost peed his pants laughing. How do you argue with that? I stammered around explaining that I in fact, love all of those mentioned but I don't think Brice cared. He'd already realized he'd pushed my buttons and was completely seizing the moment....what a day.

Oh kids...they say the darndest things!
Brice has a lot of idea in head, he is a little bit precoce. It's better to think silently next to his ears.
Oh and Brice is whiter than black, don't worry little Brice, we love Marfin, lufin king here in Belgium.
Charlotte,
You are so right. It is wayyyyyy better to think silently next to his ears! Perfectly stated.
Oh my gosh! Soooo funny! You Marfin hater...haha!
Know that you're in my thoughts and prayers!
Psalms 17:6-7 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
