Things...random things...

Things are going very well at our house right now. The school year is winding down and we are on the verge of an epic summer break. I say epic, because our little four schooled district is building a new high school to replace the current one, and since they need lots of uninterrupted time to finish construction of it, the district's summer break this year is from next Tuesday alllllllll the way until after Labor Day in September!!! Of course next year, we pay for it with a very short, not even two month summer break, but this summer will rock!

It has come to my attention recently that the older kids (our teenagers) have no trouble getting in lots of quality time with Albert and I. We have long conversations with them, play games with them, run errands with them and attend all of their events. The under 5 crowd, also get plenty of time...they sort of demand it by virtue of their young age and neediness...but Brice and Jackson could use a bit more. I noticed that it often seemed like at the end of the day, I couldn't remember much interaction with them, aside from the usual dinner, homework, did-you-take-your-shower type stuff. So, now every night, the three of us gather in my bedroom and we read books together. Brice picks out a couple of his favorite books and then Jackson and I read a chapter book together. I can't even describe how great a change just this little routine has been. It's nice to lay in bed, holding my sweet boys!

Emanuel has registered for TWO classes in summer school this year. Not because his grades weren't good. Nope, his are great. He has registered for two classes so that he can get ahead in high school. He is taking PE and health so that those will be out of the way and he can make room on his schedule for other classes. I am so proud of that kid- I could burst!

We are getting ready to travel to Tennessee soon for my nephew Cade's first birthday!!!! We are excited about his birthday party at the lake. Our kids can't wait to play with their cousins and I can't wait to see my mom and sisters, and we will also get to see Mia's godmothers again. I can't even tell you all how excited I am about it!

Last night we took all of our children out to eat at a Chinese Buffet. Brice ate jello with chopsticks. That pretty much sums it up. Okay, actually, in addition to Brice's chopsticks antics, we had a really great conversation with our kids that I'll tell you all about soon.

One last "thing." Sydney has entered a bit of a phase lately. I am calling it an "uncooperative" phase. She doesn't seem to like me very much. I am not just imagining this, or being overly sensitive. I know it because...well..because she has said "I don't like you, Mom." Several times. On several occasions. She is very sweet to her Dad but she's a witch towards me. Today she got into my makeup and painted her face. When I asked her where she was hiding my eyeshadow, she refused to tell me. So, I told her she would be in time out until she could tell me where my brand new Victoria Secret eye shadow might be found. Alexandria tried to prompt her by saying "Sydney, tell Mommy where her make-up is..." to which Sydney stubbornly shook her head and replied "No. I don't like Mommy." Where is my sweet angel who used to love me???? Sweet Sydney, please come back. I'll be waiting. And looking for my eye shadow.

Know that I'm always here praying!
Psalms 121:3-5 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

Lifting up prayer!
Psalms 121:6-8 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
