Corn Part II

This was taken the day before Father's Day. You can see how the corn has already grown since "Corn Part I". We need to get another pic as its gotten very large now!

Summer Nights

Tonight is one of those relaxing, cool-breeze evenings that epitomizes summer. The weather has cooled down a bit and its actually enjoyable to sit outside again. Albert and I are out with the kids grilling out brats while french fries cook in the oven. Kambree is playing a few feet away in the stroller. We've set up the bouncy house for the little ones and Isaiah, Alexandria, Sydney and Brice are jumping, jumping and jumping some more. Brandon and our nephew Preston are taking turns mowing strips of grass in the back yard. Drew and his friend Chris are setting up the tent next to the little kids' bouncy house. The older children are "camping" tonight in the back yard. Albert has been to the store to stock them up with snacks for their "trip." Brice is begging to "camp" in the tent with the big boys so Albert is going to sleep downstairs on the couch (the tent is just outside the window...the couch is just on the inside side). Zoe will also be camping with the boys, just to keep them safe. I'm sure she'll enjoy the snacks as well...

My Sister's Keeper

Last night Albert and I went out to see "My Sister's Keeper." I must say, Albert had REALLY not wanted to see it because its a chick flick and he would have much rather seen "Transformers" that was playing in the next theater. But, alas, he loves his wife and I so rarely want to see a movie (I detest having to sit quietly upright in a chair for two hours) that he put on a happy face and took me. He settled back in his seat with a bag of popcorn and I had to remind him gently that I expected him to stay awake and not sleep. To his suprise, the movie was quite good and he LOVED it. Yea me!
I enjoyed the movie as well although it wasn't very true to the book at all towards the end. I won't spoil it for anyone, you'll have to see it for yourself. It was a good movie and worth seeing, but as with most books to movies- the book is wayyyy better.
I was keenly interested in how the movie would portray the mother and her decision to have a child who could be an HLA tissue match (and more) for her sick child. I felt the movie was fair to the mother's point of view. I'm sure it was also fair to her daughters' points of view as well as the points of view of other family members, but all I could understand was the Mom's. The mother made perfect sense to me and to Albert. We were both emotional at the end and when we got home, our baby Brandon was sleeping snugly on the couch. I covered him up and planted a longgggg kiss on his cheek. And thanked God that he is healthy and strong and vibrant and alive.Albert adn I talked about how we are coming up on the three year mark of remission! Amazingly, he officially was pronounced in remission the day our twins were born, just as I went into labor! So the twins' birthday is always significant and special to us in more ways than one. Almost three years. At five years we will dare say we've kicked Brandon's disease in the ass, for good but we are too nervous to say it aloud yet! So when we got home, we kissed our baby, and tucked him in. And marked our calander for our next attempt to set about creating his match (by natural means, later in the year).

Off to Denver!

Two of our little ones flew off to Denver today! Emanuel and Jackson have gone to visit Uncle Ron and Aunt Pat (Albert's Aunt and Uncle) for two whole weeks! The boys are so excited they could hardly stand it! They are going to have an absolute blast! Albert said that when he was younger he used to spend weeks with his Uncle Ron and Aunt Pat and he cherishes those memories as some of the best of his childhood. I am going to miss them terribly but I know that its a great experience for them. They just barely made their flight, as Albert was running a bit behind this morning, but they have arrived safely and all is well. The rest of us will soon be traveling to Knoxville to bring our nephew Preston back home as well as to leave Drew there for a visit with my Mom and sisters. The kids are having tons of summer fun! We have used our pool pass several times a week and the kids have developed fabulous tans.
Just last week, on the day before Father's Day we drove up to Indiana to the EXOTIC FELINE RESCUE CENTER. We'd seen it on Animal Planet and decided that since it wasn't too far away (about 3 hours) that we'd jump in the big van the next day and head up there. It was well worth the drive and the cost ($10 for adults and $5 for kids) I'll post more about that later.
For now, I'm missing my two Denver boys already but know that they are going to LOVE it there.
Internet access has been coming and going here lately which is why we haven't updated as often. Stay tuned, we'll post as often as we can!

The big storm

Last week, our town was the fabulous recipient of a big storm..a tornado was even reported in parts of our little town. we hid with our children and nephew in our tiny storage closet under the staircase. The small kids were terrified, Albert and Emanuel were excited by the large hail and our cars received enough damage that we'll get a fat check to fix them from the insurance company. Fun times...

Corn part one...

I love living in a rural farm community for many reasons. One of those reasons is watching the corn get planted each year and enjoying how astonishingly fast it grows up and then how it is harvested. This year we've decided to chronicle this. We took a picture of Brandon last Sunday- June 1st. Then we will take another photo in the same stop every week or two so you can all enjoy it with us. Simple- yes. But simple pleasures in life are the best.

poop

Just posting quickly after a very long day. Yesterday we took Isaiah back to the GI doctor for his follow up appointment. He is of course, constipated again. Our appointment was actually with the nurse practicioner, Sarah. She felt around on his belly and commented on how much poop she felt. But then she felt something else. She sent us for an X-ray. An X-ray we were sure would show more poop. We did this before a couple months ago. The X-ray did indeed show poop but also showed something that looked different than the lumpy, obvious poop they saw. This was round and smooth looking and was not in the place they would typically expect to find poop. When the nurse prac. came back to give us the X ray results, she now had the doctor with her. The doctor explained that we'd need to have a CT scan to find out what this was that they were seeing. She said that she wanted to be cautious due to our children's histories'. So I spent an almost totally sleepless night last night worrying. We left our house this morning at 5:00 am to get to the hospital by 6.
Several hours later we had our answer...indeed...still just poop. Though it looked different, and was in an odd location, what they were seeing was still just regular, old, ordinary poop. No cause for concern.
Tomorrow when Isaiah wakes up he will be on clear liquids for 24 hours. No regular food. He will have a large dose of a laxitive and then a cupful of Mirilax every hour for 3 hours. Hopefully this will make him go, or we call the doc again. The issue with his constipation is that each time he gets constipated, the bowell responds by streching and growing..thus he enables himself to get "fuller" and fuller. THe bowell then streches again to accomodate the unpassed poop and then that fills up and the cycle repeats. We need to get him to go so his bowells will go back to its correct size instead of being enlarged and distended.
We are obviously so thankful to be dealing with constipation. We welcome poop problems in comparison with what it could have been. Tonight we both feel saturated by releif. It's a good feeling.

Is It Bedtime Yet???

OMG. Today is one of those days that defy reason. I am getting ready to crash- to fall absolutely exhausted into my freshly laundered sheets and bedspreads (yes, plural becuase my hubby is a cover-hog).
Anyhow, here's the basic run-down of the days events. In order of occurance of course

* Took Brice to the store. In the course of 15 minutes he proceeded to toss multiple, unapproved items into the cart, open a bag of candy and munch while we walked (this was not only without permission, but without my knowledge until I turned around and saw his grin) and last but certainally not least, he grabbed a tomato- from the very bottom of the tomato pile in the produce section, sending many tomatoes spilling forth...all over the ground.

*Jackson attempted to pour some soda into a cup. I say "attempted" because he did not succeed. Instead, he poured it all over the kitchen counter. All over a pile of bills to be paid (okay, to be stashed away somewhere until they can be paid later..er..much later..) In his haste to clean up his mess, he grabbed from the laundry room what he THOUGHT was a towell, but turned out to be my chenille sweater. My chenille sweater, now sits soaked in pineapple soda.

*Upon returning from trip #2 to the grocery store, and whilst getting ready to put away groceries (okay, watch Albert and the kids put away groceries while I cooked dinner) Brice dropped a glass platter into the floor, sending shards of glass cascading across the kitchen.

*As Manny went to clear out space in our ridiculously over-crowded refridgerator, he spilled a container...a LARGE container of baked beans all over the kitchen floor. The dog appeared instantly on the scene doing her best to help clean up the mess with her germ infested doggie tounge. The inside of our refridgerator has never sparkled so! Kate Gosselin would be mortified! I, on the other hand, am much to exhausted to be mortified and was sort of glad/releived to have the mess cleaned (okay, licked) up so throughly.

*As I leaned over to pull the garlic bread out from the oven, the loaf broke in half sending the bottom portion tumbling onto the oven floor. Seceretly, when I took it out of the pantry to put into the oven, I grabbed the wrong end and it slid out onto the kitchen floor (where I'm sure it joined the glass shards and baked beans). No one saw, so I dusted it right off and popped it in the oven!

Off to bed before anything else goes wrong.

My sister is Parent of the Year

My sister Katie is parent of the year. Only not really. Her kids' school asked her for a self addressed stamped envelope in order to mail out their end-of-the-year grades. Apparently, they asked not once, but repeatedly. Finally, my sister, told the teacher that she was in fact NOT sending the required self addressed stamped envelope because it was the END OF THE YEAR and all she needs to know is whether they passed. If they passed, she reasons, who the heck cares what grades they made.
My sister Katie. Parent of the year.
