Just posting quickly after a very long day. Yesterday we took Isaiah back to the GI doctor for his follow up appointment. He is of course, constipated again. Our appointment was actually with the nurse practicioner, Sarah. She felt around on his belly and commented on how much poop she felt. But then she felt something else. She sent us for an X-ray. An X-ray we were sure would show more poop. We did this before a couple months ago. The X-ray did indeed show poop but also showed something that looked different than the lumpy, obvious poop they saw. This was round and smooth looking and was not in the place they would typically expect to find poop. When the nurse prac. came back to give us the X ray results, she now had the doctor with her. The doctor explained that we'd need to have a CT scan to find out what this was that they were seeing. She said that she wanted to be cautious due to our children's histories'. So I spent an almost totally sleepless night last night worrying. We left our house this morning at 5:00 am to get to the hospital by 6.
Several hours later we had our answer...indeed...still just poop. Though it looked different, and was in an odd location, what they were seeing was still just regular, old, ordinary poop. No cause for concern.
Tomorrow when Isaiah wakes up he will be on clear liquids for 24 hours. No regular food. He will have a large dose of a laxitive and then a cupful of Mirilax every hour for 3 hours. Hopefully this will make him go, or we call the doc again. The issue with his constipation is that each time he gets constipated, the bowell responds by streching and growing..thus he enables himself to get "fuller" and fuller. THe bowell then streches again to accomodate the unpassed poop and then that fills up and the cycle repeats. We need to get him to go so his bowells will go back to its correct size instead of being enlarged and distended.
We are obviously so thankful to be dealing with constipation. We welcome poop problems in comparison with what it could have been. Tonight we both feel saturated by releif. It's a good feeling.

Who would believe one could be so thankful for poop? I like the way you put it, saturated with relief. Phew....
