Free Rice

A couple of days ago, Brandon came home from school very excited. He told me that in class, he was able to play a computer game. A game that featured questions, and for each correct answer, rice was donated to poor families. It seemed like such an interesting concept. The more I thought about it, the more I became excited about this right along with him. Brandon could play a game, a game that was educational for him, a game with a lot more substance than some of the other video games he usually enjoys, and at the same time, families in need would receive help? It sounded too good to be true. So, last night, Brandon asked if he could use my laptop to log on and show me what he was talking about. By now, Albert was interested to, as were some of our other children. Brandon showed us, and he and his Dad spent the next hour or two playing and earning rice. I encourage everyone to get thier children interested. It's a small something our children can do to help others, and really, to a large extent, help ourselves. For my children, this game is raising their awareness that all families are not as fortunate as we are, and that for some, even something as simple as a bowl of rice would be a life saving blessing. I haven't ever seen Brandon more motivated to do math problems! For him, he sees this as something he can do to help others. The fact that it's greatly assisting him with his math abilities is pretty great too.
